How To Get Chocolate Out Of Clothing

We can't all be perfect. Sometimes when we're in need of a pick-me-up we're in such a rush to feel that satisfaction that chocolate brings that we get chocolate all over our bold lips, manicured fingernails and amazing outfits.

So, in the spirit of Easter, everyone's guilty pleasure and not giving two hoots about #fitspiration right now - I'm here to help. It's time to learn how to get chocolate out of clothing.

There are a few different ways to get chocolate out of clothing and the first and most obvious way is to chuck your clothing in the wash. But sometimes it's not that simple. If it's chocolate sauce (Ice Magic, I'm looking directly at you) or chocolate mixed with something else like strawberries, it's not as straight forward as you'd think. So here are three remedies to help you get chocolate out of your clothing.

Ice Magic Chocolate Sauce or Oil Based Chocolate Stain Removal

Your much-loved garment does not need to retire to the donation bin just because of an oily stain. I use supermarket quality dishwashing detergent to get oil out of my clothing. Pour a small amount on the mark (a squirt about the size of a $1 coin will do) and use your non-chocolatey fingers to rub it into the fabric in a circular motion until it emulsifies.

Then all you'll need to do is wash the item how you normally would and the oil stain should be as good as gone!

How To Remove Chocolate - Regular Milk Or Dark Chocolate

Wait for it to dry and then scrape off the excess with a blunt edge object (like a spatula or the back of a butter knife). Then you'll want to head into your bathroom and turn your tap on cold, pick up your cake of soap and scribble over the chocolate mark with it. Gently (very gently) rub the fabric against itself. Then wash as you normally would and hang out to dry. If you find there's still a residue, it may be because it's an oily chocolate, if that's the case, use the Ice Magic tip above.

(Beware, this doesn't work on wool or satin, if you've spilled chocolate on these fabrics, take it to the dry cleaners.)

But Maybe Some Strawberries Too

Make sure you don't treat strawberry stains with hot water as it will lock in the stain. First you'll need to remove the excess with cold water. Then you'll need to put some white vinegar on a cloth and blot the stain, after you've done this you should wash your garment according to the directions on the care tag and then let it dry in the sun.
