I love ah-hah moments, especially those involving things I can do to make my wardrobe better and ESPECIALLY when those things used to make said things better, are things I own already.

Are we still on the same page? I've been surrounded by the scent of clear nail polish lately and I give full credit to the women who work in nail salons and don't face plant it the second they leave work because clear nail polish gets to your head, but lucky for you, I did the fume inhaling for you and got you some fabulous fashion tips that you can show off to all your friends, neighbours and cats. You're very welcome.

Clear nail polish is something I've had in my Stylist Kit for years, it solves the craziest of problems like costume jewellery falling apart, runs in your stockings, costume jewellery staining your skin and keeps your sunglasses functioning! I'm now rarely on set without a bottle and if you've got a little room in your handbag, you should bring one along because you'll never know when it will come in handy!

Now, for those of you who have some clear nail polish handy, here are some top fashion tips to make the most of:

QUICK JEWELLERY REPAIRS:

I own and style with loads of costume jewellery because it's inexpensive and updates your wardrobe quick smart and when the fashion of what I've chosen is over, I retire it to my kit, send it to charity or toss it. Sometimes, because of the quality of the jewellery, it breaks. Usually, a stone falls out or a bead falls off and a little dab of clear nail polish can act like a glue to put it all back together!

COSTUME JEWELLERY SKIN STAINING:

There's nothing more un-effortless than that blue-green stain costume jewellery leaves on your skin after many wears. The best thing you can do to prevent this is to coat the metal areas that sit against your skin in the clear polish. It will act as a barrier between the two surfaces and keep your skin stain free. The added bonus is that your jewellery won't tarnish as fast! For more jewellery tips, learn how to store your costume jewellery here!

SAVE YOUR SUNGLASSES:

Those tiny little screws will be the death of me, not only are they nearly impossible to see, they're a pain when they get loose because you know the poor arms of your favourite sunglasses are about to fall off. In this situation, you should tighten the screws and put some clear nail polish over the screws top, this will help prevent it from getting loose.

FIX YOUR STOCKINGS:

It doesn't take much for a pair of sheer stockings to get a run, but when they do, you need to act fast to stop the run from spreading down your entire leg. Dab a little clear nail polish on either end of the run to stop it from going further.

STOP THE FRAYING:

If you're a brogue owner or you have a few pairs of shoes with laces, depending on the fabric they're made from, they can easily fray. To stop them from looking school-yard-shabby, a little clear nail polish on each end will help to keep them looking neat and tidy.

MAKE THE SHINE LAST:

You can also stop your metal buttons and belt buckles from looking worse for wear by coating them in clear nail polish while they're still looking good. It will help to prolong their overall shininess and stop them from getting too daggy.
