Where To Shop Vintage Inspired Clothing In Australia
I love a red lip, a fitted waist and a great pair of cat-eye sunglasses.
Sometimes I feel like unleashing my inner Bette Davis on unsuspecting non-effortless b’s on the street, and I know some of my clients who love to dress in that flirty, pin up style by incorporating a little retro clothing into their wardrobes. So as I sit in one of my favourite retro inspired cafe’s in Sydney, I find myself thinking of all the fantastic stores I like visiting when hunting for the perfect pencil skirt or retro swimsuit and because I’m crazy about lists, I’ve created a nice lengthy one on where to find vintage inspired and retro clothing in Sydney and online.
Your Vintage Inspired Clothing Hit-List:
Kitten D’Amour: This is a chain of boutiques that specialises in pin-up and rockabilly style clothing for women sized between 6 and 18. You can find anything in here from headwear and retro clothing to shoes and accessories. There’s currently a Kitten D’Amour in Sydney’s glorious Queen Victoria Building, Castle Towers, Chatswood and Chermside and Carindale in Queensland.
Atomic Cherry: Atomic Cherry are an online store that aren’t just a pin-up girls paradise for shopping, they also sell other retro clothing, gothic style dresses, homewares, books and menswear!
Review: An Australian favourite that’s in just about every major shopping centre. Review cater for sizes 6 to 16 and are known for their feminine floral prints, pencil skirts and spring dresses. They’re always girly and tasteful and their quality is great for the price point.
Wheels & Dollbaby: This store is known for having celebrity visitors such as Dita Von Tesse, Katy Perry, Debbie Harry and The Rolling Stones amongst many others. They’re a little bit of a higher price point compared to review, but have a sexier, more vixen like style. They cater for sizes 6 to 16.
ModCloth: An online store with more than just vintage inspired clothing, but a plethora of other styles like boho, punk, romantic and androgynous style clothing. They cater for sizes 4 to 34 and their product review set up is fantastic because customers can post pictures of their orders for everyone to see!
Dangerfield: Stocked in Myer City stores and with a range of stores around Australia, Dangerfield offers Rock ‘n’ Roll style clothing for men and women. Their size range spans from size 6 through to 16 and they also sell footwear and accessories.
Alannah Hill: One of my favourite girly vintage inspired clothing brands, Alannah Hill has great clothing, shoes and accessories and some seriously fantastic cocktail dresses. Their size range offers fabulous frocks to girls who are between a size 6 to 16.
Retrospec’d: In the trendy and eclectic Newtown hub, Retrospec’d is a small boutique filled with big, beautiful dresses and gorgeous prints. They’re all Australian made dresses and range from a size 6 to 18.
Zoo Emporium: This vintage store is the place to go when you need a fix from a different decade. They have retro clothing, some newer branded vintage inspired clothing and so many shoes, accessories and wow-pieces that can turn your wardrobe into a walk down memory lane. Zoo Emporium is in Surry Hills and just a short walk from Central Station.
