Does Hippy Style Still Work After 50?
While it’s not something you’ll commonly see, hippy style is something that can be considered ‘too young’ if done incorrectly.
As you get older, the free flowing fabrics and bias cut garments associated with hippy style can accentuate the overall pull of gravity that age has on your body. When your bust starts to sag, unfortunately, those baggy tops just don’t look as hippy chic anymore and instead just make things in that region a little more lazy looking. But if you love the style and it feels like you, how do you wear it as you get older?
Pick Hippy Style Accessories
I always tell my clients how great costume jewellery can be for your wardrobe. It’s inexpensive and can completely change your outfit without the need to buy a new one. You can opt for gold, silver or bronze and pick up unique pieces from markets and op-shops.
Add Animal Print
It comes in all shapes, colours and sizes these days and you don’t have to look at real fur. Zebra printed scarves or leopard printed espadrilles will work great, you can also mix prints by making sure one is considerably bigger than the other.
Keep that 70’s hippie style by adding a wooden or cork wedge. If you can find a pair with a cross over strap, your legs will look miles longer!
Add Some Structure
Denim or leather is the best way to keep the structure in your outfit to flatter your figure, while still looking casual.
Choose Earthy Tones
Brown, grey, black, green and dusty blues are great options for core wardrobe colours. Keep these core colours in mind so that next time you shop you don’t end up with a rainbow of colours in your wardrobe and nothing that matches.
